Michalis A. Savelonas received the B.Sc. degree in physics in 1998, the M.Sc. degree in cybernetics in 2001 with honors, and the Ph.D. degree in the area of image analysis in 2008 with honors, all from the University of Athens, Greece. For his Ph.D. research he received a scholarship by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology (25%) and the European Social Fund (75%). Dr. Savelonas has co-authored more than 30 research articles and book chapters, and has been actively involved in 7 European and National R&D projects. He is a reviewer in prestigious international journals including IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Signal Processing. He is currently a research fellow in the Bioimage Analytics Lab of University of Houston, whereas in the past he has been affiliated with various academic institutions, which include University of Athens, Hellenic Air Force Academy and Technological and Educational Institute of Lamia, Greece. His research interests include image analysis, segmentation, pattern recognition, bioinformatics and watermarking.
